Arsenal finalise deal to sign star striker in January

As the Premier League approaches the second half of the season, the table is starting to shape up and it puts Arsenal in a healthy position to challenge for the title. With just two points away from Leicester and Man City right behind, Arsenal need to maintain a strong level of consistency to stay in the title race. It is no surprise that Arsène Wenger is already working on his January transfers with Aleksandr Kokorin being the first player linked to a move to the Emirates.

Kokorin is lined up for a move to the Emirates

Various media outlets are reporting Arsenal have agreed a fee to sign Kokorin. Reports in Metro suggest that a £4.3m deal has been agreed to sign the Russian striker.

We understand that Arsenal have contacted Dynamo Moscow to finalise a deal to sign the 24-year-old Russian in January. Kokorin has scored 41 goals for the Russian club and has also earned 36 caps for the Russian national team, scoring 10 goals.

Kokorin's move to Arsenal was mainly triggered due to the fact that Welbeck might have suffered a setback. Arsenal continue to monitor Welbeck's progress and a decision will be made before mid-January.

Arsenal the perfect move for Kokorin?

Former Manchester United winger Andrei Kanchelskis believes that Arsenal is an ideal destination for Kokorin to boost his career:

"Kokorin should jump at the chance to leave Russia and go to that country. The Russian championship is very weak and Aleksandr can progress at Arsenal. Arsenal are the best option for Aleksandr's career. If he is prepared to work a lot, he will not have any problems. He will not be like Andrei Arshavin and will become a top-class forward for the London club."

In the midst of an injury crises and an exciting title race on cards, Arsenal need to make sure they have enough depth in the squad and signing Kokorin could be very fruitful.
